As the largest department at NYU Langone Health, the Department of Medicine is home to more than 560 staff and over 1,200 faculty, who provide world-class, integrated, patient-centered care in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.

Toward this end, we promote a supportive academic environment for our clinicians, researchers, and educators. We know that their ability to pursue their career goals and aspirations result in meaningful advancements in medicine and ultimately in happier, healthier patients.

Collaboration among clinicians across all divisions, departments, and a wide range of specialties, as well as with the patients and families we serve, is vital to ensuring that we continue to provide a state-of-the-art, comprehensive, integrated experience for all individuals in need of care. Divisions within the Department of Medicine excel in a variety of clinical services.

Excellence in Research, Education, and Patient Care

Our many practice sites contribute greatly to our clinical mission. At NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, as well as affiliated NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and the Manhattan campus of the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System, our faculty provide the most advanced care available to people from the many diverse communities of New York City and all over the world. Through our network of ambulatory care sites across all five boroughs and Long Island, we reach New Yorkers in their own neighborhoods.

NYU Langone recently received two prestigious awards—the 2019 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award for demonstrating superior quality and safety performance and the Vizient Ambulatory Care Quality and Accountability Award for demonstrating excellence in providing outpatient healthcare—a testament to our commitment to quality healthcare.

Our medical residents and fellows, too, benefit from the breadth of experience that is afforded by our esteemed faculty and the combined training of private hospital, city hospital, federal hospital, and outpatient ambulatory care settings.

Finally, in addition to providing excellence in clinical research, education, and care, we believe in preserving the human factor in medicine, treating not only the illness but the whole person. We believe that every patient has a right to the most advanced and innovative diagnostic and treatment options available; to the delivery of this care with respect and kindness; and always, to hope.
